A captivating live improvised performance by an 10-piece iteration of minimalist ensemble Emergence Collective, responding in real time to Benji Wilson’s continuous footage of the Hope Valley train line—a celebration of this iconic route.


 

2025 sees 200 years since the birth of the modern railway. Britain and the world changed forever.

Emergence Collective’s performance is one of two events celebrating the iconic landscape, history and people of the Hope Valley train line.

Polyhymns takes you on a journey from Sheffield to Chinley with the premiere of its real- time soundscape celebrating the Hope Valley train line. Each stop is represented by a combination of improvised music, field recordings and oral history clips from people who have lived and worked along the line.
