CHRIS WATSON

Sound recording specialist Chris Watson will present a new work ‘The Unquiet Don’, a dream journey above and below the surface of Sheffield rivers from the moorlands to the Ouse.

As a composer and sound recordist Watson specialises in creating spatial sound installations which feature a strong sense and spirit of place.

COMPOSER BUYOUTS
This hot-topic session, in association with the Musicians’ Union & Ivors Academy Composers Against Buyouts campaign, will address the issues surrounding the increasing number of media composers being asked for buyouts and put forward a fair and established way of paying composers.

SCORING CONTEST – Western Works
This year’s Scoring Contest is our first archive challenge – featuring a specially edited clip Western Works, courtesy of the Yorkshire Film Archive, showing the cutlery-making process in 1920s Sheffield. A panel of industry experts will critique submissions on the day, including Gary Downing (Leland Originals), Sophy Purnell (The Composerworks), Connie Farr (ThinkSync Music) and Tom Sweet (British Council). Submissions are now closed.

RE-FRAMING THE PAST

This panel session will present case studies that explore innovative and interesting ways of presenting archive material, also discussing the challenges, opportunities and advantages of working with archive.

Guests include Rebecca Mark-Lawson (Tyke Films), Christopher Allen (The Light Surgeons), Désirée Reynolds and composer Mandy Wigby – hosted by Prof. Esther Johnson.

Our panel will discuss the challenges of writing for creative media including TV & Film. Guests include composers Oli Julian and Kz (Kwame Kwei-Armah Jnr), plus Tim Miles (Senior Creative Sync Manager @ Warner Music). Hosted by Connie Farr (ThinkSync Music).
