• The ever-popular SCORING CONTEST returns. This panel session offers a unique challenge each year. Composers can submit their music to a specially selected film clip, a shortlist is then ‘critiqued’ by a panel of experts on the day – and a winner is voted by both the panel and the audience. This year sees a UK-Vietnam bilateral challenge, delegates can choose from a Vietnamese film clip OR a Sheffield-based archive film clip. Our panel of industry experts will critique submissions on the day – featuring Chi Chi Nwakodo (Sony Music Publishing), Sophy Purnell (The Composerworks), Siân Rogers (Siren) and Sam Lenthall (Universal). Submission deadline Wed 6 Sept.

• FAIR SCORE The Musicians’ Union and the Ivors Academy work in partnership on the Fair Score campaign, which aims to improve the media commissioning landscape – dealing with fees, rights, royalties, transparency and all parts of the process from pitching onwards.

  For this session, media composers will talk through their career highs and lows, and how they navigate the industry and negotiate fair and informed deals. Who needs an agent? How much are royalties really worth? Where does the next commission come from? Whilst deals and processes often appear opaque, this discussion will offer insight on what really goes on, and how improvements can be made for the benefit of individual composers and the wider industry.

• Musicians’ Union Broadcast & Recording Roadshow. The MU’s Recording & Broadcasting team will be hosting their event at SensoriaPro, discussing everything you need to know about working as a recording musician, and how to earn a living doing so. The MU team will be on hand to help you to understand your rights as a musician, including delving into all things copyright, and knowing how to protect them. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions on the day and speak to the team one-to-one.
• PRS for Music Get Paid Guide session. Take control of your music data. Find out how to register songs correctly so you don’t miss out on any royalties. The Get Paid Guide is a partnership between PRS for Music, The Ivors Academy, the Music Publishers Association (MPA), and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). It is aimed at demystifying metadata and helping music makers to better organise their music data and royalties.
