Bait, the BAFTA-winning indie hit of 2019, is presented with a live performance of a new score by the composer and musician Gwenno Saunders that builds on the original soundtrack she created for the film.
Mark Jenkin’s stark depiction of tensions in a Cornish community between a local fisherman and metropolitan incomers, is a lo-fi tour de force filmed in black-and-white with a clockwork camera. With grainy and purposefully archaic visuals, Bait blends social realism and political melodrama to create a potent commentary on very contemporary issues.
Gwenno Saunders, winner of the Welsh Music Prize, will perform her newly created live score with producer and musician Rhys Edwards. Blending synth loops, violin drones and live vocals, Saunders draws on her background in dance, theatre and performance to weave a seamless tapestry of sound and image that adds new layers to this critically acclaimed masterpiece.

The Scoring Contest is a unique opportunity (available to all Registered SensoriaPro Delegates) for composers to score or place music and have their submissions reviewed by our panel of industry experts including Ian Neil (Sony), Behrooz Moshari (MUBI), Chi Chi Nwakodo (Sony Music Publishing) & Connie Farr (ThinkSync Music).

A double bill of animated short films with live music + Q&A.
Commissioned by FAMLAB (Film, Archive, Music Lab) a British Council initiative.
That Long Moonless Chase / その長い月のない追跡 (30 mins)
In a mash-up of sinister folk-horror and fantastical mythical imagery, animator Noriko Okaku (JP/UK), musician Helen Papaioannou (UK) and sound designer Başar Ünder (TK) bring an audio-visual performance based on folkloric legends from Sheffield (the Gabriel Hounds) and Kyoto (water-weeping ginkgo tree). The tales are exchanged by the looping of the Japanese and English texts, warping the legends into a bizarre and spectacular new mythology.

DAUD / दौड़ (Race) by Nihar Palwe with Original Music by Adith Anande (10 mins)
Combining Live Action and Animation, Nihar Palwe along with musician & composer Adith Anande, animator Arindam Kishore Dutta & sound designer Pranav Shukla, brings together this Hybrid Visual experience.
This short film follows the story of a young boy.
His earliest memory is of his father rising in the waking hours of every day, to scale the heights of an impossible mountain. Every day, his father would run – and he would run with him. The only day he decided not to go, was the last day he ever saw him.
With the memory of his hero still vivid in his mind, the boy sets out to finish what his father started. Every day is an exploit as he tries to conquer his fear, in this experimental live-action/animation short.
The music blends modern elements inspired by hip hop and modular synths with tribal sound to provide an electrifying experience.
Laura and Rob Skeet will provide live woodwind additions to complement the electronic soundtrack at the premiere screening of the film.

UDAGAN are a duo who bring together performance elements of folk, world and technology to create diverse soundscapes and sonic journeys crafted by Oscar South, paired with a shamanic live performance courtesy of the stunning stage presence of Saydyy Kuo Fedorova.
Saydyy Kuo is a Siberian musician from the Republic of Sakha, who shares her culture with the audience through shamanic music and ancient instruments such as the Khomus. Saydyy Kuo and Oscar augment their instrumental and vocal performance with their own creative interpretation of the emerging artform of ‘Live Coding’ — the art of performance with programming languages.
Elements of distant ancient culture, virtuosic performance, rich orchestration and analogue synthesis are all brought together to musically delight while enriching the perspective of the audience.
Since 2019 the project has been based in Sheffield, UK.

They’ve been making music together for years, despite the disapproval of the people around them. All four band members Akbar, Soori, Mohammed and Hakim are children of Afghan parents who fled to Iran, and that means they face dangers if they return to their homeland. The Forbidden Strings shows the musical foursome struggling to get themselves heard, and follows them in the run-up to a historic day. The moments of joy are infectious, but sobering reality also constantly looms over them.

From The Estate is a collaborative project (musician Jim Ghedi & photographer Laura Merrill) comprising field recordings and photographs guiding the viewer through an exploration of green spaces within four council & social estates in Sheffield: Gleadless Valley, Herdings Park, Jordanthorpe and Stannington.
Jim Ghedi’s field recordings provide audio narratives to each area whilst Laura Merrill’s photographs illustrate nature and city in proximity to each other.

The SensoriaPro Scoring Contest is a unique opportunity for composers to score or place music and have their submissions reviewed by a panel of industry experts.
We’re delighted to have teamed up with distributor, producer and streaming service MUBI who have kindly supplied the trailer for SUSPIRIA (2018), a supernatural horror art film.
The Scoring Contest has traditionally taken place at Sensoria Festival’s Pro Day but this year the event will be held online. A shortlist of submissions were reviewed as part of an online feedback session on 15 October. Guest judges Ian Neil (Head of Music for Film, Sony), Samuel Diaz (Director of Music Supervision, CBS Television Studios), Chi Chi Nwakodo (Creative Sync Executive, Sony/ATV Music Publishing) and Ava Striker (Development Executive, MUBI) gave their thoughts and comments during the session.
